PREFACE - Life in Ibabao, Cordova, Cebu

April 2012:

Very few in developed Western countries understand the depth of poverty outside of their own countries. It can only be touched upon by photos and videos but not fully understood. I have attempted as best as I can to document life in Cordova, Cebu City, Philippines.

I have made this preface brief (short) and just ask that you take the time to view all of the pages and many of the photos and videos. My hope is that it will bring better understanding to many other people.

It's easy to make assumption about people's lives based upon life if our own countries, our culture, our experiences and perhaps because of our own education.

I ask that you put all of those biases aside and understand that while there may be some similarities, there are also great, major differences.

While education is mandatory in the United States, it is not in other countries and it can be difficult to obtain an education if you have to pay a tuition, buy uniforms in addition to trying to simply survive.

As of this writing, when I last checked, the average income in the Philippines was about 5000 pesos per month, or the equivalent of 120 U.S. Dollars.

Of course salaries may be higher in Manila and with certain jobs but that is not the national average of the Philippines.

With great sadness I make this announcement:
Ruel Racaza Limpangog     4 October 1973 - 15 January 2013
